Pain in the knee: Can be osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative diseases where there is increase in wear and tear of the joints which leads to pain, most commonly it affects the knee joint.

Causes of osteoarthritis:

Age : it is one of the important factor for causing osteoarthritis, As the age increases the bodily structure gets weakend

Obesity: Nowdays the lifestyle of the people is changing and becoming more sedentary which leads to obesity ,it increases the loading over the joint and causing osteoarthritis

Joints injury:Any major injury of surgical intervention might lead to osteoarthritis

Symptoms

  • Pain in the knee
  • Tenderness over the joint
  • Swelling over the joints
  • MmRestricted movemen
  • Weakening or thinning of muscles

How to manage osteoarthritis

As the osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition ,the best solution we got is that to modify the lifestyle and doing some exercises which will slow down the process of degeneration.

  • Lifestyle modification is an important factor to reduce the symptom’s
  • Physiotherapy is the best solution to improve the range of motion,to strengthen the muscle and reduce pain.

Here are some exercises

1) Static quadriceps: Lie down on the back and place a small towel roll under the knee and press the knee over the towel for 5-10 times

2) Static Hamstring: lie down on the back put a small towel roll under the heel and press the heel on the towel roll.

3) Straight leg raise: Lie down on the back and raise the leg straight without bending the knee

4) Abduction in side lying: Lie on the one side and raise the leg straight

5) Vastus medialis oblique strengthening: Lie down on the back place a big towel roll under the knee and straighten the leg

6)knee bending: lie down on the stomach and bend the knee

7) Dynamic quadriceps: Sit on the table or a chair with legs shouldn’t be touching the floor and in the position straighten the knee

-Every exercise should be done twice to thrice per day with each time 10 repition should be done.
